This summer fruit salad is a delicious healthy treat that’s perfect for the warm weather! Containing an array of different fruits, you’re free to personalise it with your own favourite fruits! Of course, the only ingredient is fruit, so it’s suitable for everyone!
Ahh, the sun is shining, and the sky is a rich blue with a few white fluffy clouds. Scattered around the garden, colourful flowers are in full bloom. Birds chirp and tweet from the treetops while we inhale the gentle Summer air.
Sat on the green carpet of grass in a floral dress, I took a mouthful of the sweet fresh fruit. A perfect balance of tart, sweet and refreshing.
Being British, a traditional picnic in the sun (with a calm breeze) is the epitome of a glorious Summer’s day. It encompasses all the connotations of the season –
- warm weather
- freshly-cut grass
- food – salads, sandwiches, carrot sticks, pineapple & cheese, apple crumble etc.
So this summer fruit salad certainly fits nicely into that setting!
First, we start of with a base: fruit juice. We all know that we shouldn’t count juice as an equivalent to actual fruit, as it is stripped of the fibre and most of the nutrients. It’s also high in sugar – natural sugars, mind, but sugar nonetheless.
So for this, we’re only using half a cup, which is a serving for 1 person anyway. Diluted with some water to make it go further, we’ve got our base for the fruit salad…
Now, I used mango, apple, pear, melon, grapes and banana. But of course, feel free to use any selection of fruit you like! For example, I don’t like oranges so I didn’t add orange slices to mine. My mum doesn’t like the difference in texture with the banana slices, so if you’re the same, just leave the banana out.
Grab a bowl and your fruit of choice, groove along in the kitchen to Mr. Blue Sky and get chopping! (just mind your fingers if you’re dancing too!😉)
