We all love cookie dough, right? Right.

Nothing beats the sweet, gooey dough studded with melt-in-your-mouth chocolate chips. Now a very popular flavour, you’ll find ‘cookie dough flavoured’ everything! From snack bars, protein powders and cupcakes, to coffee, milkshakes and ice-cream! Or my personal favourite, cookie dough cheesecake!

When you’re making cookies, you can’t help but consider whether or not to actually put it in the oven or just sit and eat the cookie dough right there and then! (Usually I end up keeping some cookie dough behind to snack on while the rest is baking!)

Also, many don’t like to eat the dough if it contains raw egg. Of course, this is the case for you vegans out there too. And what if you don’t eat gluten? What if you’re trying not to eat refined sugars? You simply can’t miss out on the gloriousness that is cookie dough!!

No need to worry! I’ve got the perfect recipe for you:

These Healthy Cookie Dough Bites!

Gluten free, refined sugar free and eggless, it’s super quick and easy to whip up!

First of all, I started with 3 tablespoons of butter (substitute with flavourless oil for vegan version). You can use Greek yoghurt instead to make this oil & butter free. To me it doesn’t end up with quite the right flavour, but it still works.

Then we’ll add some unrefined sugar. I used light muscovado sugar, but you can use light or dark soft brown or muscovado sugar.

After some vanilla extract, we’ll incorporate flour. Either gluten free, wholewheat or just plain ol’ flour, take your pick.

Finally, we just need a good handful of chocolate chips (dark are best), and you’re good to go!

Once you’ve got these cute little healthy chocolate chip cookie dough bites rolled into shape, you could either:

  • Place them in a jar as a sweet gift
  • Put them on top of a dessert
  • Bake them – I haven’t tried it, will they bake into cookies?
  • Or just eat them!

Healthy Cookie Dough Bites

Prep Time: 8 minutes

Total Time: 8 minutes

Yield: Serves 1

Serving Size: 1 small bowl of cookie dough

These Healthy Cookie Dough Bites are gluten free, refined sugar free and eggless. Quick and easy to make, they're perfect as a gift - how about for Mothers' Day?

  • •3 tbsp butter (OR Greek yoghurt OR an unflavoured vegetable oil e.g. rapeseed)*
  • •2 tbsp unrefined light brown or muscovado sugar
  • •1 tsp vanilla extract
  • •60 g gluten free plain flour (OR normal plain flour OR wholewheat plain flour)
  • •3 tbsp dark chocolate chips (mini)

  1. First, in a medium-sized bowl, half-melt the butter (I put it in the microwave for 15 seconds).
  2. Add the unrefined sugar and vanilla extract, then stir.
  3. Carefully mix in the flour of choice, to form a dough. With clean hands, knead and fold it to ensure all the flour is combined.
  4. Add the chocolate chips, and keep working the dough with your hands until all the chocolate chips are incorporated.
  5. Leave it in the fridge, covered, for 20 minutes.
  6. Remove from fridge and roll into balls. That's it!
  7. You could decorate them or coat them in chocolate etc.
  8. Store in a sealed container (or jar, if giving as a gift) in the fridge.

*It tastes best with butter in my opinion. But you can use Greek yoghurt to make it oil/butter free, or a dairy-free alternative to make it vegan.
