I’ve always enjoyed cooking and baking (as well as eating!), so began experimenting with food in the kitchen. Having developed quite a collection of recipes, I decided it would be good to share them with other people!
It’s currently the height of Summer, so I’m thinking of sizzling sausages on a barbecue, fresh crunchy lettuce, smooth cold ice-cream, refreshing fruit smoothies, and picnics on the grass with the sun shining…
Now think about Autumn. Warm butternut squash soup, sweet maple syrup, scrumptious pumpkin pie, melty s’mores, and the golden, orange and red leaves spiraling to the ground from the trees in the wind…
Finally, Winter. Comforting hot chocolate, crumbly cookies and gingerbread, pungent cinnamon and ginger, soft mince pies, huddling in front of the fire, wrapped in blankets and wearing fluffy slippers, while the garden is covered with snow, and decorations around the house sparkle with the excitement of Christmas…
That’s what food is about, for me. Food is something you can design, create, eat and share with the people you love. There is so much variation as to the food within different families, cultures and occasions. Not only that, but because of those occasions we develop particular associations with that food – just like what we imagine when we think of food throughout the seasons. I think it’s magical.
But the icing on the cake, is if the food is healthy for you. Here at Katrina’s Clean Cooking, I’ve adapted recipes that aren’t so healthy by swapping out traditional ingredients and replacing them with healthier ingredients, without losing the taste and texture of the original version.
I’d like to share those recipes with you, and show you that healthy eating can be simple, enjoyable, and delicious!
