Let’s say you’ve just woken up. Light is streaming in through the window, and you get out of bed, ready to start the day!

Well, that’s how it should be in theory. But if it’s 6am and you’ve got a day of school or work ahead of you, it’s going to be more like: a dull light fills the room, blinding you as you force your eyes open and attempt to drag yourself out of bed.😒

But what if you had something to look forward to? Something that would give you an incentive to rush to the kitchen the moment you woke up. How about this?

Perhaps a Healthy Mocha Frappuccino?

A smooth, thick and creamy, refreshing coffee topped with chocolate sauce? Definitely something worth rushing to the kitchen for.

Before you begin to worry that this may not be the healthiest choice of drink, think again. This Mocha Frappuccino contains a whole banana, and can be sugar free if you decide not to add the optional 2 tsp of honey (or maple syrup)! Even if you do add the honey/maple syrup – which would take the over-all sugars up to just 30g – it’s still natural sugar, giving you health benefits [honey, maple syrup].

Can you believe that a whole banana hides in such an indulgent Starbucks-style drink? Also, instead of whipped cream, I used whipped coconut cream, which has higher protein, dietary fiber, a lot less sodium, a lot more vitamin C and iron, as well as zero cholesterol. Coconut cream has many other health benefits, boosting the healthiness of this healthy mocha frappuccino even further!

So go ahead – take 5 minutes to whip up this refreshingly delicious mocha frappuccino! Either make it up the night before and leave it in the fridge to thicken overnight, or freeze the banana an hour or so before, to ensure a thick and creamy coffee beverage!

Healthy Mocha Frappuccino

This Mocha Frappuccino is so delicious that you wouldn't know it is healthy! Containing 2 tbsp of only natural sugars and hiding a whole banana, this is the perfect drink to start your day!

Ingredients

    For the Frappuccino:
  • •1 medium-sized banana *
  • •250 ml [1 cup] milk **
  • •1 tbsp coffee granules
  • •1 tbsp boiled water
  • •1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • •(optional) 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup or other sweetener of choice.
  • Toppings:
  • •60 g [1/4 cup] coconut cream***
  • •1 tsp honey (or other sweetener)
  • •1/2 tsp cocoa powder
  • •1 tsp milk**

Instructions

  1. If you haven't got time to leave it in the fridge overnight: Peel the banana, slice into 1/2-inch pieces, then place in the freezer for at least an hour. (Skip this step if you aren't bothered about it being extra cold and thick.)
  2. In a small ramekin, mix the coffee and the boiled water. Place in the blender with all the other ingredients and blend until smooth.
  3. Place the frappuccino in the fridge, overnight if possible.
  4. In the morning, whisk the coconut cream a bit (or whip the cream), take the drink out of the fridge and pipe/spoon the cream on top. Mix the teaspoon of honey, milk, and 1/2 tsp cocoa powder to make a sauce, and drizzle it on top.
  5. Enjoy!

Notes

*Freeze for 1 hour if you haven't got time to leave the frappuccino in the fridge overnight.

**You can use dairy-free milk, such as almond, oat or rice milk (not coconut).

***You can use normal whipping cream instead.

It tastes so nice. I am here typing this while drinking it. It tastes like coffee but it doesn’t over power the drink. I definitely recommend it. 🙂 XD.
